5 hot tips to keep your dog well in changing seasons

The four seasons bring many changes like precipitations and temperature differences. Your pets, like any animal in the wild, react to the seasonal changes in a few different ways like changes in their appetite, joint pain, mood shifts and fur coat density.

With all the crazy weather we’ve been getting this year, dog and cat owners should remember to pay close attention to the possibility of seasonal skin and gut issues and support your pet’s general health and immune system to help your pet cope better during the season changing time.

We have some other great tips to ensure your furry best mate enjoys every season as much as possible.

exercise with your dog

Keep Up the Exercise

Rain, hail or shine, your pet still needs regular exercise so don’t be afraid to grab the lead and get out for walkies. A daily walk will help keep them warm and prevent the extra kilos from piling on over winter. If it’s really cold outside, put a coat on your pooch and keep walks brisk and short. During warm seasons, make sure your exercise time is early in the morning or late afternoon, so neither you or your dog suffocates. Keep the water level up all the time.

Both cats and dogs will of course appreciate extra playtime too, and it’s a sneaky way of burning some calories in winter and increase their metabolism in summer. You could also consider buying some special toys for every changing season too. This is a good way to keep them engaged and excited for playtime.

bath your pet

Bath Time Essential

If your pooch is a fan of puddles like mine is, winter and spring can be a messy time of year! That may mean more baths than usual, so there are some things to keep in mind. Before bath time, consider turning the temperature up in the house so your dog has somewhere it can go and keep warm while it fully dries. After bath time, always dry them as much as possible. Although a fresh-smelling pooch is amazing, skin health is more important.

During autumn and summer, bathing your dog every few weeks or once a month is enough. Frequent bathing can strip away essential oils, making the skin itch and drying out the coat. If you need to clean your dog in-between baths, you can use a damp towel to wipe off the dirt.

Your bath best mate is Woof Wonder Glow Shampoo. It is packed full of the beneficial culture Zoonatant™, a postbiotic supernatant that inhibits pathogenic bacteria to protect the established microbiome for your dog’s better health. Oh, and it smells awesome too!

snuggly dog

Maintain Your Pet’s Temperature Seasonally

There’s nothing better than crawling into bed in winter with extra warm blankets or having a fresh room ready for summer sleeps, right? Good chance your pet feels the same way.

During the winter consider adding an extra warm snug blanket to their bedding and providing comfort in warms spot inside the house. Is there a window that lets in the morning sun in your house? This is a great spot for our pets to warm up after a cool night. If your pet sleeps outside find a sheltered and warm spot for them to put their heads down and consider whether they might need a coat too.

While in summer, make sure you take your dog for a trim when needed, keep the house temperature fresh with windows opened, aircon slightly running or fans on. Your furry friend might not be so keen on cuddles and pads during the warmer seasons, try to respect its space and make sure it stays fresh and hydrated.
